Locally referred to as the "Hamalir," the Demirchyan Arena was built and opened in 1983. With a total capacity of over 12,000 seats, the Arena is the largest in the country.

Throughout its more than 35 decades the Complex has hosted Chess Olympiads, Sports Championships, International Song Contests and a number of concerts staring world names such as Deep Purple, Lara Fabian, Garou, Joe Cocker, including famous Armenians Charles Aznavour and Serj Tankian.
